As I was enjoying all the great quilts at Quilt Expo in Madison when I found this quilt made by LeaAnn Wente and Sally Giordana and longarm quited by Pat Barry.
Traditional four-block quilt made by LeeAnn Wente and Sally Giordana.
It was like running into a familiar friend! I designed this pattern based on antique four block quilts and the original quilt is displayed in my sewing room. After finishing the quilt in 1999 it was exhibited at AQS in Paducah. Oxmoor Publishing included the quilt and a pattern in Great American Quilts, Book Eight in 2000.
Here’s a photo of my original quilt.
Cockscombs, Tulips, and Berries, original quilt designed and made by Susan Liimatta.
The "W" in the baskets was a tribute to my dad, Warner, who passed away suddenly, too soon. I discovered the four-block appliqué style at a Gwen Marston retreat.
I love the bold repetition of the large pattern, a traditional design with a very modern look.
