Prickly Passion - Custom Longarm Quilting

"Prickly Passion" in black and white to show the quilting detail.

Loved quilting my friend Gail’s southwestern themed quilt “Prickly Passion” on my longarm machine. Some of the quilting motifs are my original designs including the prickly pear cactus, a desert rose, and just a “prickly” image I created and stitched in bronze thread.

Prickly Passion was exhibited in two juried shows in 2016: the Arizona Quilter's Guild show in Phoenix and at AQS in Syracuse, New York.

The design motifs were taken from southwestern art, such as the center medallion Zia, and the eight Tortugas adapted to fit the quilt. Motifs include the central Zia, 4 large tortugas and 4 small, and several original designs:  8 desert roses, prickly pear cacti stitched into the corners, cactus inspired 'prickly' designs stitched background blocks, and triangle motifs in a key format all inspired by southwestern images and art.
